How to build an Interlocking Driveway that stands the test of time

  1. Excavation: Begin excavating and removing all the organic material until you find undisturbed soil, this is typically found 6"-12" deep.

  2. Geotextile: Lay down a layer of geotextile fabric. This acts as a separating membrane, preventing the mixing or sinking of the new base materials with the underlying soil.

  3. Base Preparation & Compaction: Spread a generous layer of crushed 3/4" gravel (ASTM approved) evenly over the geotextile fabric. This will provide a stable base for the interlocking driveway. Compaction every 2" layers is necessary to achieve maximum density.

  4. Leveling with Screed Material: Once the gravel base is compacted, level the surface using bedding material. High-Performance Bedding (HPB) is recommended for its permeability.

  5. Paver Installation & Gap Filling: Carefully lay the interlocking pavers in place according to your desired pattern. Fill the gaps between the stones with polymeric sand, which acts as an adhesive. Compact the sand to ensure a secure fit, and apply a second layer to fully seal the interlock and prevent any potential shifting over time.
